“Teagan didn’t reverse the spell?” Saladin chuckled.

Dray’s frustrated growl was the only answer the rhetorical question deserved.

“Where did Vanessa disappear to?” Saladin asked, keeping his voice at a whisper.

“Don’t know. Don’t care.”

“She took off like hellhounds were after her.”

Dray grunted but didn’t reply.

“Are you disappointed? Were you planning on going for round two with her now that Shani’s left?” Saladin probed. The best thing about being the owner of the club was that he could have people thrown out. And tasered. Even cavity searched. Fortunately he would have to do none of the above with Vanessa. Whatever Nadia did to her, scared her so much she ran terrified from the club. Hopefully, never to return, Saladin thought.

“Not even if my dick was on fire and Vanessa was the only one with a fire extinguisher. I’d rather have my hand stuck to my groin permanently. I’ve made a decision, I’m going celibate,” he growled, giving his magically super-glued hand another fruitless tug.

Saladin laughed so hard he thought his sides might split. His outburst momentarily silenced the speaker in the meeting, drawing every eye in their direction. But Dray wasn’t laughing, not even a little. “Oh, fuck, you’re serious.” Saladin said, lowering his voice to a whisper.

“Never been more serious. Women are too much trouble.”

“You haven’t accidentally or on purpose, happened to taste any of Shani’s blood at any time have you?” Saladin asked, concerned about the repercussions if he had. There would be no worse torture for Dray if he had. Shani was his one true mate, that was a certainty. If he’d tasted her blood his bond to her would be sealed. Celibacy would no longer be an issue, he would be physically incapable of having sex with any other woman. Unfortunately, feeding too would also become an issue for him. Saladin remembered all too well what that was like. He’d survived two years in agony, believing his suffering was the lesser of two evils before he and Teagan had found a solution to their mating issues.

“No.”

“Good. Keep it that way.”

“What have I missed?” Dray asked.

“Not much. We’ve just been discussing likely scenarios and how we can locate Nicholas and Scorpion.”

“I don’t think we need to worry about that. He’s going to come looking for us and he’ll start with Philippe.” Dray told him, refocussing his attention on the man speaking, the lycan alpha from South Africa.

“…..more importantly is how do you contain a vampire with an unknown amount of strength and who carries an invisibility ring?” the man blustered, his tone harsh.

“How well do you know this dick?” Saladin whispered to Dray, pointing to the man speaking.

“Not well. Their previous alpha died suddenly a year ago. The contenders for succession fought it out, Donovan Eckhaus won.”

“I know that, but what do you know about him?”

“Truthfully? About as much as you. He’s a cynical arsehole with a bad attitude, but his clan seems to respect him.”

“So, he’s just like you. No wonder I like him,” Saladin grinned, inducing a single raised eyebrow on Dray’s otherwise expressionless face.
